Tokopah Falls Day Hike
Sequoia National Park
Tokopah Falls tumble 1,200 feet down granite cliffs in a series of cascades along the Marble Fork of the Kaweah River in Sequoia National Park. The impressive falls, the highest in Sequoia National Park, are at their best in early summer. A moderately easy 1.7-mile trail leads from Lodgepole Campground to the base the of the falls.

The Tokopah Falls Trailhead is within the Lodgepole Campground. Hike or drive from Lodgepole Village to a parking area near the nature center. Restrooms and water are available near the nature center. Food and other scented items should be stored in nearby bear boxes. Walk upstream to the Marble Fork Bridge. Almost immediately after crossing the bridge look for the Tokopah Falls trailhead clearly marked on your right as the Tokopah Valley Trail.
Tokopah Falls Trail
Hikers pick up the trail just beyond the Marble Fork Bridge in the campground and follow it up the Tokopah Valley, paralleling the river. Bridges along the way cross a number of small creeks. The trail is easy at first, climbing gradually with occasional steps. A mature conifer forest offers ample shade.
As hikers draw within sight of Tokopah Falls the trail passes through a rugged boulder field. Footing is difficult and hiking poles make it easier to negotiate some of the challenging spots. Near the falls the landscape opens up, providing clear views of the impressive cascade as well as the Watchtower peak rising above the canyon. At the base of the falls is a small viewing area. A sign there cautions hikers about the danger of clambering on the slippery rocks beyond the viewing area.
